Here you will find information about the Ward and useful guidelines to help parents, families and of course the child, settle into this new and strange environment


Parents are welcome day and night. Other family members may visit during the day, but visiting must be restricted to two persons per bed. Children may only visit for short periods, with prior permission from Sister or the Nurse in charge. Parents only after 8pm


There is a fully equipped kitchen within the Heartbeat’ accommodation for the use of those parents staying there. Snacks can be obtained from Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children staff canteen between the hours of 8am – 6.30pm.

There is a public telephone in the lounge of the Heartbeat’ Accommodation.


The clinicians at Clark Clinic encourage parents and families to participate in the child’s care, just as you would at home. This includes feeding, bathing and playing.


Children may wear their own clothes. However, the Hospital will accept no liability for the loss or damage to any personal belongings.

Parents are required to provide nappies for their children.


The ward has its own fully equipped playroom, full of toys and games. The Play Specialist will organise and supervise activities for the children during the day. However, please feel free to bring along your child’s own favourite toy or teddy.


Breakfast is served when the child awakes
Lunch – 11.45am
Tea – 4.45 pm

All food is provided by the hospital, but parents are invited to bring any favourite foods and soft drinks.


Both Medical and Nursing Staff carry out daily ward rounds. The main ward round is held on Mondays at 9.30am, when all members of the care team are present.

The Medical and Nursing Staff will keep you informed of your child’s condition at all times.

Our Psychologist and Social Worker are also available should you require their assistance or advice.

Every care and attention will be paid to the child’s needs, both physically and emotionally. The Staff of Clark Clinic would hope to make the parents and the child’s stay in hospital as pleasant as possible.
