Its the run up to Christmas and we are still busy with lots of fundraising events. Thank you again to everyone who has donated, fundraised or sponsored someone in aid of the charity. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Big Thank you to everyone that came along to our CHT Christmas Party on Sunday 6th December at Hilton Templepatrick. It was brilliant to see so many of our lovely heart families there and what a great opportunity to show off this year’s Christmas jumpers!
We had a fantastic day filled with plenty of Santa’s little helpers making Christmas crafts, giggles galore with Louie the Entertainer, lots of festive treats and activities and we even got a very special visit from Santa himself……thankfully we are all on the nice list!
Looking forward to our day at the panto on Sunday 13th December at the Waterside Theatre in L’Derry but if we don’t see you there we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
CHT Team xx

#GivingTuesday (1st December in 2015) is recognised as a global day of giving. After the sales of Black Friday and the online shopping boom on Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is an opportunity to come together to show the world why it’s good to give!
Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering your time or just spreading the good word of a charity, #GivingTuesday is a call to action for everyone who wants to give something back.
Children’s Heartbeat Trust is excited to be part of this year’s campaign and we want you to help us raise awareness of what we do via the following methods:
#SeasonalSelfie – Show us some love on #GivingTuesday by tweeting and posting your seasonal selfie and texting HEARTS to 70660 to donate £5 to the charity. Please include #SeasonalSelfie & #GivingTuesdayNI in your post.
If you wish you can tag other people in your post who you would like to nominate to continue the #SeasonalSelfie for CHT!
Dont forget to post it on Tuesday 1st December (#GivingTuesday) for us to share! It can be anything that relates to Christmas. From a christmas jumper selfie, to eating a mince pies – let your imagination run wild! It’s all a bit of festive fun to help raise awareness for what we do.
The Gift of Time – #GivingTuesday is also an opportunity for you to give your time to a charity through volunteering. We have a number of volunteering opportunities coming up to Christmas. If you would like to donate your time to CHT, then please get in touch for further information on our volunteering opportunities.
Shop with Children’s Heartbeat Trust in mind – December sees us all shopping for Christmas Presents. We’ve teamed up with Stella & Dot and ALittleSpecial.com and for every purchase from their online trunk show and website, a % will be donated to the charity!

‘Jake’s Ladybird Bags’ in memory of two year old Jake Flaherty, who passed away due to congenital heart disease, designed for families travelling with their children to hospitals in England and Dublin.
Portadown mum Julie Flaherty, whose two year old son Jake passed away in 2013, was in Parliament Buildings on Monday 23 November at the All Party Group on Congenital Heart Disease to launch the first ever dedicated support packs for families travelling out of Northern Ireland for heart operations.
‘Jake’s Ladybird Bags’, named in honour of little Jake are the first specialised kits for families travelling to hospitals outside of Northern Ireland for treatment. The bags include a range of useful supplies including toothpaste, socks and toiletries. Julie hopes that the child-friendly design, inspired by Jake and his favourite animal, will give comfort to many families in the years ahead. She said:
“Jake’s Ladybird Bags can provide comfort and support for parents and children as they go through difficult hospital visits away from home. Jake’s spirit was an inspiration to us all and I hope this will continue to let families going through what we went through know someone is thinking of them.”
Speaking at the launch, Sarah Quinlan, Chief Executive of Children’s Heartbeat Trust said: “These bags will provide practical support to families from Northern Ireland who have to travel to hospitals in Dublin and in England for treatment for their young children. Thanks to Julie’s generosity, Jake’s memory and inspiration will travel with families today and in future as they take these difficult journeys.”
Sarah was speaking as the All Party Group on Congenital Heart Disease met at Stormont for its final meeting of 2015. This followed a meeting between the charity and Health Minister Simon Hamilton last week. At the meeting Sarah outlined the extent of the problems with waiting lists, the continued delay in implementing both the all-Island congenital heart disease networkand a Children’s Heart Centre in Belfast.
The meeting was attended by Robin Swann, Cathal O’ hOisin, Joanne Dobson, Maeve McLaughlin and Rosie McSorley
If you are a family with a heart child travelling to England or Dublin or you know of one, contact Children’s Heartbeat Trust by calling 028 9031 2228 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org to get your Jake’s Ladybird Bag.
Earlier this week Sarah Quinlan and Chair of Children’s Heartbeat Trust Professor Nichola Rooney met the Heath Minister Simon Hamilton MLA. The charity highlighted a range of issues including timelines for a future Children’s Heart Centre in Belfast, the implementation of the All-Island Children’s Cardiac Network and waiting lists.
The Minister undertook to further explore funding for the Centre, to continue work with Southern colleagues to ensure effective and timely implementation of the network in coming years as well as ways to reduce the unacceptable waiting lists.
We will continue to represent our heart children and families and bring these important issues to the attention of the Health Minister and other relevant parties in our ongoing aim to improve children’s heart services in Northern Ireland.
We are thrilled to bring supporters the opportunity of a lifetime to trek Kilimanjaro – the highest point in Africa and the tallest freestanding Mountain in the world!
This is an incredible adventure which is happening in September 2016 and we have teamed up with Helping Hand, Charity to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children to offer supporters this once in a lifetime adventure and to fundraise for Children’s Heartbeat Trust.
The trek will be run and organised by C2Summit Adventures and will be a 10 day adventure to include the 7day trek up Kilimanjaro!
To be part of this incredible opportunity, please email email@example.com for information and pricing!
