Hawthorne/ Brady family raise funds for Children’s Heartbeat Trust

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Little Aimee Brady excitedly joined her parents, Valerie & Stephento present a cheque to Sarah Quinlan in aid of the charity. A fantastic sum of money was raised when family friend Christopher McSwiggan was persuaded to run the full 26 miles of the Belfast Marathon and they collected the sponsorship on his behalf.

Relaunch at Queens Film Theatre

Friday, May 14th, 2010

On Wednesday 12 May the Children’s Heartbeat Trust launched three exciting new initiatives at the Queens Film Theatre. These projects will provide increased support for children with heart disease in Northern Ireland and their families.

Our first ‘Wear your heart on your sleeve’ charity day on 11 June 2010 aims to raise awareness of the impact and consequences of heart disease in children and young people in Northern Ireland. We will be selling heart shaped pins for £1 and on Friday June 11 are asking the Northern Irish public to buy one and pin it to their sleeve. Activity packs for schools are also available. If you would like to help us sell the pins or organise an event on the day such as a coffee morning/ dress down day please contact Sarah on 07584 164 815/ sarah@childrensheartbeattrust.org

The second initiative is our new website, where we hope to provide an interactive resource complete with easily accessible and accurate information for those affected by heart disease in children. Let us know what you think of the new website in the comment section below.

Thirdly, we also announced the funding of a new Research Fellowship in partnership with Clark Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Dr Brian Craig (Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, Clark Clinic) commented “The funding of this research project is invaluable as it enables the continued development of our paediatric cardiac service and places Clark Clinic at the leading edge of care and treatment for children with heart disease.”

We hope that these new projects will enhance our commitment to providing strong support to children with heart disease and their families.
